In 1998 my father and I decided to give a combined gift to CA. Needless to say, I loved being a student here. Friends I made here 43 years ago are some of my closest, including Janet Eisendrath, my all-time favorite teacher, who when I visit, still manages to find a thing or two to teach me! Clearly, back in 1998, Dad had seen what CA had done for his daughter.
But, in spite of these personal reasons, what made Dad and I actually kind of excited was the decision to make our gift together, because it seemed to underline what was really meaningful and shared between us: It was about excellence in education and giving back. And it was less about who gives, and why, and more about who benefits, and why.
So why did I feel compelled to support this campaign? Because 17 years later I don’t feel that differently toward CA. Perhaps I’m just more certain about a few things. As most of you know, and some of you will find out, it’s about this special place, this community. It’s about the teachers, and each and every student for generations to come. I am happy I can continue my dad’s legacy. I am happy I can help out.
